Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport (IATA: SVO, ICAO: UUEE) is one of the three international airports that serves Moscow (other airports are Domodedovo and Vnukovo). Currently is the busiest one.

Moscow Airport

SVO Airport is located in Khimki, 29 km northwest of Moscow, in Russia. The Airport is a hub for passenger operations of the Russian international carrier Aeroflot and Nordwing Airlines.

Given the passenger and cargo features of 2017, Sheremetyevo Airport was the 50th busiest airport worldwide and the busiest one in Russia.

Note that on the first half of 2018, Sheremetyevo Airport had a 13% increase of the traffic. Sheremetyevo is the largest Russian airport in terms of handling regular international flights.

In 2017, more than 40 million passengers used the Airport (+17,8% growth and a new record). It is the busiest airport in Moscow and Russia.

Terminals

 

Sheremetyevo Airport has four operating terminals named B – D – E – F.

Present & Future

Sheremetyevo Airport is going to develop a master plan which will conclude in 2025 that will bring a new terminal (Terminal 3), a third runway, and as a general fact, the airport expansion in order to host 80 million passengers per year by 2026.

North Sector Complex

Terminals A & B

Terminal A is closed to the general public, it is only used for private and business aviation services, whilst Terminal B just serves domestic flights.

Terminal C

Terminal C is nowadays close due to renovation. It is expected it will reopen in late 2019.

South Terminal Complex

There are three terminals in the south sector acting as a single south terminal complex, connected by pedestrian walkways.

Terminal D

Terminal D is an international terminal, Aeroflot’s hub, adjacent to Terminal F.

Terminal E

Terminal E is used for international flights by Aeroflot and SkyTeam partners.

Terminal F

Terminal F hosts domestic and international flights.

Transportation

  • Rail:“Aeroexpress” is a high-speed train that depart from Sheremetyevo Airport to Belorussky Railway station every 20–30 minutes. Travel time is 30–40 minutes. The rail terminal is located in front of Terminal F, there are shuttle bus services from Terminals B and C.
  • Buses: There are public buses and shuttle buses that connect the airport with the following metro stations: Rechnoy vokzal, Planernaya and Leninsky prospekt, among others.
  • Taxi: Get to Moscow within 50 minutes by taxi. There is a taxi information desk in the terminals where you can order official taxi.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport (IATA: DME, ICAO: UUDD) is the largest airport in Russia in terms of passenger traffic and one of the three international airports serving Moscow along with Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo.

Moscow Airport

The passenger traffic at Domodedovo Airport had an increase of 7.6% compared to 2016, being the second busiest airport in Russia after Sheremetyevo Airport. Domodedovo Airport serves as a hub for the following airlines: Red Wings Airlines, Globus Airlines, Red Wings Airliens, S7 Airlines, Ural Airlines, VIM Airlines and Yamal Airlines.

The airport is located in Domodedovo, Russia, 42 km south – southeast from Moscow city centre. In 2017, 30,700,000 million passengers travelled to and from Domodedovo Airport. Although the passenger numbers have been reduced (compared to 2014 figures), it is nowadays the second busiest airport in Russia.

The Terminal is divided in three levels, with several facilities on them:

The Ground Level of the terminal building hosts arrivals, the Level 1 is the departures are and the Level 2 is where food & beverages and stores are located (in the center) as well as the airline lounges.

Domodedovo Airport counts with a couple of concourses as follows:

  • T1 – West Concourse (Domestic): Operate with domestic flights and some former Soviet republic countries. It has gates from 31 to 46.
  • T2 – East Concourse (International): Operate with international flights. It has gates from 1 to 14.

Moscow Vnukovo International Airport (IATA: VKO, ICAO: UUWW) is one of the three international airports that serves Moscow (other airports are Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo).

Moscow Airport

Vnukovo Airport is located 28 kilometres southwest of Moscow, Russia. It is currently the third-busiest airport in Russia. Vnukovo Airport was opened in July 1941 and is the oldest operating airport in Moscow.

The passenger service started after the war. 18 million passengers used the airport in 2017. It is the 3rd busiest airport in Russia just after Domodedovo Airport.

Vnukovo Airport has three operating terminals named A, B and D, located all together.

Please note that from October 2017, Terminal A is the only operative terminal in Vnukovo Airport. Terminals B and D are out of service due to renovation.

Vnukovo Airport is an operating base for Gzapromavia, I-Fly and Pobeda, and also a hub for passenger operations of UTair Aviation.

Vnukovo Terminal A

Operates all domestic and international flights (with the exception of flight arriving from North Caucasus region). Regular airlines: Aigle Azur, Lufthansa, Transaero, Georgian Airways, Turkish airlines, UTair, with transit to European countries.

  • Aeroexpress: Kiev Railway Station links with Vnukovo Airport. Travel Time: 35-40 minutes. Aeroexpress station at Vnukovo Airport links directly with underground level or Terminal A. Trains run from 06.00 am to 00.0 am.
  • Bus: Bus 911 to Salaryevo Metro Station and Bus 611/611k to Yugo-Zapadnaya. Travel time: 20-40 min. Buses depart every 10-12 minutes. “Vnukovo Airport” is an intermediate stop. Hours: from 05.00 am to 01.00 am.
  • Jitney (VKO Shuttle): Vnukovo Airport provides shuttle service to the airport’s forecourt and to Moscow.
